We are going to change the world for as many children as we possibly can. Know More Orphans is a non-profit ministry that seeks to fundamentally alter the lives of orphans and vulnerable children by fostering systemic, gospel-centered change within their culture.

We advocate for the voiceless, providing education and equipping local churches, families, and communities to meet both spiritual and physical needs.

We know that short-term missions are only a bandage on deeper wounds; because of this, we are committed to intentional, data-driven ministry that can spark long-term cultural change and redeem a generation.

HAITI

Haiti is the poorest country in the West, still reeling from a 2010 earthquake that killed over 100,000 people and affected three million more. Many of those affected were children that still remain orphaned. Know More Orphans is committed to resourcing, equipping, and empowering our partners in Haiti to care adequately for these vulnerable children in three primary areas: healthcare, nutrition, and clean water.

Healthcare

We start solving spiritual needs by meeting basic physical needs. Two out of three Haitian children have no reliable history of the vaccinations we take for granted in developed countries; another 36% are already experiencing dental decay. KMO provides high-quality medical care for children through partnership with the Society of Christian Haitians (SCH). Our ultimate goal is to train members of SCH to develop and administer their own medical program, minimizing their dependence on external aid and bringing systemic change to Haiti’s orphans in the form of vaccinations, medical care, dental care, and vision care.

Nutrition

When a child is hungry, nothing else matters. Nutrition is our most basic human need, and far too many of Haiti’s children subsist on rice and beans. A community that can feed its children, and feed them well, is an empowered community. KMO’s nutritional goals for Haiti include both short-term support in the form of pre-made meals and long-term strategies designed to equip communities to raise and produce their own food.

Clean Water

Clean water is a prerequisite for life itself; without it, all efforts to improve a community’s nutrition and medical care are ultimately fruitless. Lack of access to clean water affects impoverished communities across the globe. According to the WHO, 3.4 million people die each year from easily preventable water-related illnesses; tens of millions more are made seriously ill. In Haiti, the situation is dire; only 48% of rural Haitians have access to clean water. Because clean water is the most fundamental need of any community, KMO works with our partners to ensure they have adequate filtration systems for clean water in the short term. Our ultimate goal for each community is the development of a long-term clean water source, such as a well.

Replication

Through four years of experience on the ground in Haiti, KMO has developed a practical and realistic plan to develop self-sufficient, fundamentally changed communities. Through open dialogue with our Haitian partners, culturally appropriate education, and clearly-communicated objectives, we continue to fine-tune this protocol for deployment in other parts of the world. At the end of the day, KMO plans to have a global impact and replicate the program we’ve developed in Haiti wherever there’s a need.

THE

FUTURE

Vaccinations

KMO will establish vaccination programs for 4 of our core locations in Haiti. We will help SCH establish documentation procedures and training.

Dental Program

KMO will provide equipment and training for new dental program with SCH.

Nutrition Program

KMO will launch a nutritional program for 4 of our core locations. This will include food, vitamins, and medication.

Medical

KMO will help SCH establish a medical liaison from each of our 4 core locations. We will provide medical training including growth chart documentation, basic medication administration, and basic medical care. We’ll work with Haitians to establish medical closets for each location.

KMO will establish a telemedicine platform and network to work alongside situations outside of liaisons expertise

Water Program

KMO will finalize our water program for each of our 4 core locations.

Vision Program

KMO will provide equipment and training for vision program to 4 key SCH members. We will establish and train on documentation procedures.

Expansion

KMO will work with SCH to identify more locations for the programs started in previous years. SCH and KMO will identify key leaders within the current program to assist and guide the implementation in other sites.

We will assist as needed but the primary objective will be to empower the current leadership with implementation and documentation.
